Penstocks & Water gates

Penstocks are devices used to isolate or stop a liquid passing. They comprise three parts:

Gate: The part of a penstock which slides, thus allowing or blocking the passage of fluid.

Frame-slide rail: This has a dual function: it is used by the gate in order to let water through or to block its passage and it is also where the gate rests so that the whole set is sealed.

Actuator: A mechanism to operate the gate. There are various types: flywheels, reducers, electric drives, hydraulic, pneumatic, etc.

Based on their use, the penstocks may be:

Channel-mounted penstocks: Designed to stop liquid flowing when it does not exceed gate height.

Wall-mounted penstocks: These penstocks are sealed on all four sides, so the height of the gate can be exceeded.

We produce sluice gates in carbon steel, stainless steel and special steels (duplex, super duplex, etc.):

  • Wall-mounted Penstocks: sealed on 4 sides - assembled on holes in the wall.
